The Nokia 5630 XpressMusic It is not a phone that was waiting with special interest, but in the time I’ve been with him I have had the opportunity to meet his little story, and find some of its virtues and defects.
We have a good construction terminal, design in multimedia Nokia line and a very interesting price, in fact is one of terminals with operating system S60, connectivity WiFi, and support NGAGE more affordable market.
I will try to review its main characteristics in different sections, even know a bit of their history, but before entering these points I’d like to that you knew the terminal with the video I present below:
If we go back two years ago, date in which appeared on the market the Nokia 6120 Classic, the original idea of mobile we looked at was replace it, but due to the good reception of the Classic, and then the decision to incorporate it to the range XpressMusic, they did that the Terminal will be delayed longer than expected.
Another detail that made more lengthen their output were positive sales of the 5310/5320 XpressMusic, and did not cannibalize plan range, so they decided to further enhance the characteristics of the 5630, and throw what we now have in the market.
For its preparation Nokia Choose the hardware platform Freescale, already present in other terminals as the E71, and Interestingly the phone decided to manufacture in china, with the idea of targeting other markets, not European, alleging that there was too much competition in this type of terminals.
For so long the terminal has not been exempt from rumours, the most important was the use of an ARM11 600 MHz CPU, some numbers that frightened a little compared with the frequencies of clock of their brethren, and in fact so has materialized. In practice we can say that the operating system is well optimized, which in some applications such as NGAGE, It seems to make use of this, but in general I don’t see excessive power extra.
The phone that made me come Nokia, as you can see in the pictures, is black with a blue line that distinguishes him, since the model is also available with the line in red, in other markets there are more shades, even a silver version.
The first thing that draws attention is that is very thin, 12mm, and its weight 83 grams, in short, a comfortable to wear over phone. Your complete measurements are 112 × 46 × 12 mm.
The materials used are correct, none of the other world, but convinces with a similar to the 5800 touch plastic, termination is also decent, not liked so much in relation to the top of battery and internal areas of mobile, with a fairly cheap look.
Doing a quick round through the terminal we are the volume controls on the right, next to the button of the camera and the microSD slot, in the upper part a 3.5 mm jack connector along with a microUSB (load + data), and left the media controls.
On the front we have screen (240 × 320 pixels) QVGA, 2.2 inches, good legibility even in bright situations, over the same phone has located an ambient light sensor, which adjusts the brightness and keyboard, next door is the camera for video conferencing.
The keyboard could say that you despite not be the best in the market, he has well distributed keys and a correct size, ultimately has a pretty good ergonomics, aesthetically would say that their keys are minimalist, with numbers formed by sequences of points.
Finally assess positively the stereo speakers which has the 5630 XpressMusic on the back of the phone, they are sufficiently powerful, and a pretty decent quality. What I can not speak in the same way is included in the pack, a construction and quality headphones below the average.
Trying to look for defects, seems strange to me that they have left so much dead space between the screen and the keypad, with the accustomed we are to the use of space, but hey, it is an insignificant detail.
The device is equipped with 128 Mb of RAM, of which there remain 76 Mb of memory free at our disposal when loading the system, sufficient for normal use.
The 5630 XpressMusic It makes use of memory cards microSD for the storage, my unit in question comes with 4 Gb, but you can identify trouble-free 32 GB cards.
The internal memory of the device is divided into 128 MB internal dynamic and 256MB NAND flash memory.
The autonomy of the terminal Nokia is really good, It has a battery from 860 mAh (Li-Ion, BL-4 CT), we can make intense use a couple of days until it runs out, which by the way takes a couple of hours to fully charge.
Speaking of numbers battery yields 400 hours standby, 7 hours talk, little more than 20 hours playing music or listening to the radio, or 150 minutes of video (90 minutes recording).
If we use the Wi-Fi connection if we will notice that the battery is consumed with greater ease, but not overly.
A very complete phone in a matter of connectivity, USB, HSDPA, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, are your letters of presentation, therefore there are no complaints in this section.
The USB connection has 3 modes of operation: data transfer (USB mass storage), PC Suite and print images.
The phone features Bluetooth v2.0 with EDR support and profile A2DP.
And finally the most interesting, the possibility of using WiFi networks, it works pretty well, even I would say that it is better than in my 5800, what I find interesting is that you due to their thinness, when we connect it, terminal heats behind a rather obvious way.
The Nokia 5630 XpressMusic used operating system S60 3rd Edition (Feature Pack 2), and the interface, saving touch screen distance, is inherited from the 5800, with a bar of contacts in the home screen.
In the bar we have direct access to contacts, as well as communications with them (SMS, last calls, emails,…) In addition it provides shortcuts to frequent applications, such as the browser, the radio or the music player. It would have been interesting to have more control over the desktop composition, and can vary the location of the bar.
The included browser is that accompanies to S60, is not overly fast load , supports Flash content (a little slow), but in general allows us to sail well, especially if we use Wi-Fi access.
In the 5630 XpressMusic it comes pre-installed with Nokia OVI services, including chat and other applications. I have not had chance to prove much in this regard not be given on the service.
Not I forget to tell you that this Nokia has support for platform games NGAGE, comes with several pre-installed games, and certainly quality is quite correct, and terminal moves better than I expected.
Perhaps the NGAGE more affordable and slim market phone. As negative detail, comment that I think the somewhat reduced screen size for recreational purposes.
Logically, the 5630 XpressMusic generic system S60 player has, with 8 Equalizer band to get profitability of stereo speakers (at the rear) that incorporates, or for use with headphones (pretty bad) that come in the package.
Interesting function say and play, with it we only have to say the name of the artist or a song so this reproduces. The phone also has the possibility of listening to the radio with RDS support.
By minimizing the music player and start browsing through other menus, if you press in the dedicated multimedia keys, we will check in an area for this purpose, the current track, and will always have access to your control.
A section that looks decent on paper, 3.2 megapixel camera, and I have not found way to enforce it, it is quite difficult to make a photograph that does not leave out of focus.
Nokia calls to the system used for the operation of camera, “Full Focus”, a system that makes pictures quickly, in which each of the elements of the scene are always focused, regardless of the position of the same.
I am aware of that does not have auto-focus, so it did not expect nor do wonders in this regard, even I have come to think that it was defective, because it has been very frustrating to use it, even taking into account the poorly resolved is the dedicated camera button.
Below some sample images:
An example of the panorama mode:
In favor of the Chamber comment that performs the shots quickly enough, the colors are very vivid when the lighting is high, and has with dual LED flash for areas of reduced lighting.
The video recording of the phone is a marvel, is limited to a resolution VGA @ 15 FPS. Another detail that places it behind family companions is that Optics is not guaranteed by Carl Zeiss. I leave you with a video of test:
video shows – MP4 (4.3)
We won’t discover the general quality of Nokia products in purely telephone issues, reception and clarity of the signal levels are correct, although perhaps under other brand phones I’ve had occasion to prove in recent months that they have given me a greater sense of quality in this aspect.
I like especially the speed of the interface, everything moves with a suitable fluidity, and makes our actions are more dynamic than in other phones with the same operating system, I suppose that some of the blame will have processor 600 MHz.
We could summarize this musical mobile phone is a handset with a great price/features ratio, its compact design and full connectivity, but putting us demanding we will say that hadn’t come you badly the presence of GPS or a more effective quality camera.
Honestly I have been satisfied with the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic, and if you are interested, on the official website we found it at a price of 219 euros, free of any operator.
